Colombians have long held a passion for travel, with Europe consistently ranking as one of their top destinations. Yet, in recent months, a country quite distinct from the usual favourites of Spain, France, or Italy has caught Colombian travellers’ attention—a destination that was, until recently, often overlooked. This new hotspot is Turkey, a nation rich in both cultural and historical treasures and, thanks to its competitive prices, a rising favourite for travel. Compared to 2023, tourism to Turkey has surged by 450 per cent, as reported by Trevolution Group.
Further data from Anato, Colombia’s National Association of Travel and Tourism Agencies, reveals that a record 26.7 million passengers travelled on domestic and international flights in 2024, marking a 17 per cent increase over the previous year. Turkey offers visitors a wealth of historical sites and architecture, from the ancient ruins of Ephesus and vibrant city of Istanbul to the remarkable rock formations of Cappadocia, the iconic Blue Mosque, Topkapi Palace, Pamukkale, and more. Beyond these sites, Turkey provides a variety of memorable experiences, such as hot-air balloon rides at sunrise over Cappadocia, scenic Bosphorus dinner cruises, tours to Princess Island, excursions to Bursa and Uludag, and a chance to explore Ottoman cuisine.
