Demand for premium travel in India is spanning across the industry from airplanes and buses to hotels and experiences. Despite the high cost associated with these choices, Indians are still making last-minute bookings. Ticket sales to and from India surged 25% last year, according to data shared by travel company Trevolution Group. This led to the group recording a high of $140 million in gross bookings. “India remains one of our most dynamic markets; the growth that Trevolution group has seen in travel to and from India shows its increasing global mobility,” said Alex Weinstein, founder of Dyninno Group of Companies.
Trevolution recorded an over 40% year-on-year increase in outbound travel from India in 2024. The demand for travel to the UK increased by over a 1,000% in 2024 as compared to 2023, and this figure was 97% for Canada and 10% for the United Arab Emirates. Meanwhile, demand for inbound transpacific flights increased by over 20%. Along with the surge has come a decline in advance booking time for outbound passengers from India. Last year, less than 16% of air passengers from India booked tickets three months in advance as compared to over 19% in 2023. Meanwhile, over 25% of passengers booked their flights within 10 days of departure, marking a 2% year-on-year growth in last-minute bookings. Last month, online travel company Agoda also said that Indian Gen Z are booking flights and accommodations at the last minute more than any other generation. Over 30% of Gen Z travelers book their flights less than a week in advance, and 44% make last-minute hotel bookings, its survey revealed. Continue reading here.
